Comments from the official forum.

Bem um breve resumo do show.

O show foi praticamente dividido em duas partes:
Dante/Old Songs

Do Dante destaco a False e Convicted in Life. Muito foda.

Já da segunda parte o show aqueceu mesmo do meio pra frente, Desperate Cry, Escape to The Void, Beneth The Remains e Boycott. Ápice do show foi quando o Andreas anunciou o Jean como novo baterista da banda e eles tocaram Territory. Arise também foi sensacional. No meio do show rolaram uns trechinhos rápidos de Inner Self/Screams Behind The Shadows/Mass Hypnosis/Orgasmatron..

Voltaram pro Bis com Kaiowas, Come Back Alive (que pela primeira vez eu gostei ao vivo) e Roots Bloody Roots.
Destaco a empolgação do Andreas e a performance do Jean, já me acostumei à pegada que ele colocou nos velhos clássicos do SEPULTURA.

A Música nova, The Treatment, foi bem recebida pelo público e é um som mais lento... com umas guitarras mais "noise". Difícil comentar, eu gostei mas precisaria ouvir gravado mesmo.

A musica nova na parte do vocal tem tipo aquela levada de Convicted in Life na bateria (prato conducao comendo solto), tem umas partes que fica mais trash (tupa tupa...rs). O destaque nela na minha opiniao ficou no vocal do Derrick e na bateria do Jean, muito bom!

tipico show do SEPULTURA, muito bom, nas musicas do Dante fica mais de boa e nas "veias" o meiao fervia, dos ultimos shows foi uim dos melhores, foi bem descontradido, Andreas como sempre muito empolgado e Jean arrebentando, tambem gostei da pegada e de um detalhe e outro que ele coloca nos sons antigos.

a musica nova pareceu bem "moderninha", mas realmente tem que ouvir gravada pra sentir

a principal diferenca que senti desce show dos outros foi o tempo das musicas, a maioria era praticamente o tempo de disco, em algumas foi estranho, por estar acostumado com uma velocidade maior em show, mas na maioria dos casos os sons ficaram muito mais "pesados"
resumindo um puta show, tanto por parte da banda quanto do publico

Primeira vez que eu vi o Sepultura sem o Igor e o legal é que da pra dizer que dá pra dizer que os caras acertaram a mão com o Derick, as músicas Roorback/Dante ficaram legais desde que a pessoa tenha em mente que 50% dos caras que fizeram a banda ser o que era no começo dos anos 90 não estão mais lá.
O Jean manda super bem em algumas músicas antigas como Arise e caga em outras, tipo, Territory, Refuse e Slave New World.
De todos os trocentos shows do Sepultura que eu fui esse foi o menos emocionante, não que tenha sido ruim, pelo contrário, mas eu acho que já estou ficando velho... Nem o do Slayer eu achei tão bom.

Chega a ser meio revoltante os caras tocarem partes rápidas de "Inner Self", "Screams Behind The Shadows", "Mass Hypnosis", "Orgasmatron" e "Meaningles Moviments" e depois tocarem Bullet The Blue Sky... Poderiam ter tocado Piranha ou
Messiah.

P.S: sai no finalzinho pq se não iria ficar sem trem pra voltar :-p e por isso pode ter faltado um ou outra musica.

Música nova: Acho que ela fica entre a Saga e a Convicted In Life. Começa meio parecida com a Apes Of God e depois tem uma levada mais cadenciada (bem legal) tipo aquele da Rumors ai rola uma pontezinha thrash e volta para a levada mais cadenciada ai logo depois o Andreas começa a fazer uns ruídos toscos seguido de mais um solo preguiçoso do Alemão e estraga a música. Do Nation pra frente eu acho que muitas músicas são mal organizadas e essa parece ser mais uma.

O último show da noite ficou a cargo da maior banda brasileira de Heavy Metal de todos os tempos: Sepultura. Pela quarta vez, a banda seria a atração principal do festival e a responsável por fechar a noite mais pesada do evento. Há dois anos sem tocar em Recife e fazendo o primeiro concerto no Brasil após a bem sucedida turnê européia no mês de março, o Sepultura trazia para a cidade o seu show do Dante XXI, álbum muito bem recebido na Europa, que conquistou o primeiro disco de ouro desde o Roots, no Chipre. Também tinha uma outra novidade: o baterista Jean Dolabella, que substituiu Iggor Cavalera em junho do ano passado, faria seu primeiro show diante do público recifente.

A energia que o Sepultura transmite ao vivo é impressionante! Poucas são as bandas de Metal que conseguem fazer um show tão espetacular em todos os sentidos: qualidade do som, estética e energia. Qualidade no som é algo imprenscindível em qualquer apresentação ao vivo e o Sepultura sabe como poucos se fazer ouvir em alto e bom som. Impecável e invejável a presença de palco dos caras, aquilo que os mais ranzinzas chamariam de "show burocrático", eu chamo de verdadeira aula de Metal. Passeando um pouco por toda a sua gloriosa história de 23 anos de estrada, o Sepultura apresentou músicas de quase todos os seus lançamentos, ficando de fora apenas o Bestial Devastation e o Nation (não entendo como ousam deixar de fora a "Sepulnation", mas tudo bem...), porém o set list foi marcado mesmo pelas excelentes músicas do Dante XXI, sendo 6 ao todo. Metade do set list foi composto por faixas da "Era Derrick" e a outra metade pelos clássicos do Metal da chamanda "formação clássica" do grupo. Fizeram, portanto, um show para agradar a gregos e troianos, ou seja, aos fãs de toda a carreira e ao fãs de uma determinada fase.

As músicas do Dante XXI ao vivo ficaram muito boas! Destaque para "False", "Ostia" (cujo clipe deverá sair em breve) e "Crown and Miter", com direito às partes de orquestrações, tudo bem executado e bastante audível. "Bullet the Blue Sky", cover do U2 gravado para o EP Revolusongs, levantou a galera que bateu palmas ao ritmo da música, cantou o refrão e pulou junto com Derrick e Andreas. Por falar em Andreas, que carisma, hein? Instigando bastante e tocando muito, Andreas sempre rouba a cena em cima do palco.

Contudo, inquestionavelmente, foram as músicas antigas as que animaram e agitaram mais o público. "Dead Embryonic Cells" inteira, sem cortes como o Iggor gostava de fazer nos últimos tempos, levou os fãs ao delírio! A seqüência matadora com "Troops of Doom", "Beneath the Remains" (também inteira), "Territory" (executada magistralmente, arrastada, pesada e com groove, assim como na gravação original) e "Arise" foi para deixar qualquer fã de Heavy Metal em êxtase! E a brincadeira de Andreas antes de "Troops of Doom"? Quem acompanhou os vídeos da turnê européia já sabia do que se tratava: alguns riffs de músicas do Schizophrenia, o comecinho de "Mass Hypnosis" (do Beneath the Remains) e a primeira parte do clássico cover do Motörhead, que ficou mais famoso na versão do Sepultura e se tornou um dos hinos da banda, "Orgasmatron". É para matar do coração!

Depois de uma pequena pausa vieram "Kaiowas" e "Biotech is Godzilla" (sem o João Gordo, ao contrário do que todos esperavam) e a dobradinha que veio para ficar desde a tour do Roorback: a arrebatadora "Come Back Alive" e a mega-clássica "Roots Bloody Roots". Precisa de dizer mais alguma coisa? O pavilhão do Centro de Convenções tremeu! A se registrar, como nota, a participação do Jean: muito boa! O cara mostrou-se muito bem e demonstrou muita vontade de tocar. Bom músico, com formação em Jazz e Blues, Jean executa as músicas à sua maneira porém sem perder a pegada original. O cara deu um novo gás à banda e não deixa a desejar em relação ao desmotivado Iggor dos últimos anos. Segundo Andreas, ano que vem tem álbum novo a caminho... Ficamos à espera deste álbum e de mais uma passagem do Sepultura por terras pernambucanas!

SEPULTURA Starts writing new album

Yesterday we went down to SEPULTURA's studio to check out what's going on with the writing of the new album. This time the guys are writing songs inspired in the book "A Clockwork Orange" released in 1962 by Anthony Burgess which later became a classic movie of the 70s: "A Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick. This looks promissing. And sounds promissing too (check the video below).

They are really in tune. Since this will be the first album composed by SEPULTURA with Jean Dolabella, we could expect some [good] changes in the writing process. And that's happening. Ideas flowing, tons of new ideas.

This is one of the videos we made yesterday. Sound is crappy, but you can have an idea of what's going on. We do have other videos, with better sound. But those are way too revealing, we'll save for later because you have to understand this is a really early stage in the writing process.

From their humble beginnings in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Sepultura went on to become the most successful Brazilian heavy metal band in history. Over a ten-year period, the band grew from strength to strength, transforming itself from a primitive death metal ensemble into one of the leading creative trendsetters of the international aggressive music scene. Unfortunately, a bitter internal crisis almost destroyed the band, and Sepultura struggled to recover their previous momentum.

Hailing from Brazil's third-largest city, Belo Horizonte, Sepultura (which means grave in Portuguese) were formed in the mid-'80s -- a time when that country was beginning to emerge from a 20-year military dictatorship. Max Cavalera (vocals/guitar), Igor Cavalera (drums), Paulo Jr. (bass), and Jairo T. (lead guitar) had a hard time even finding rock & roll albums and especially "socially unacceptable" genres such as heavy metal and punk. Their early influences were Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Slayer (literally the first three records purchased by Max on a visit to the "big city" São Paulo), but the band soon progressed toward a death metal sound, inspired by emerging bands such as Possessed and Death. Their drive and determination (they sang in English from day one) more than made up for their geographic isolation and inexperience, and though all were only in their teens and still learning how to play their instruments, the band quickly evolved into underground contenders. After landing a deal with independent Cogumelo Records, Sepultura recorded four songs for a split LP with fellow Brazilians Overdose. Now reissued on CD and named for its first track, 1985's Bestial Devastation was self-produced and recorded in just two days -- and it shows. Recorded with minimal time and money in August 1986, their first full-length album, Morbid Visions, showed little improvement, but contained their first hit, "Troops of Doom," which attracted some media attention and convinced the band to relocate to São Paulo (Brazil's largest city and financial capital) in order to further their career. They also replaced guitarist Jairo T. with São Paulo native Andreas Kisser, whose greater musical ability would help take the entire band to the next level.

In 1987, Sepultura's technical proficiency finally caught up with their creative vision, and their second full-length album for Cogumelo, Schizophrenia, displayed an incredible evolution in terms of production and performance. It also became a minor critical sensation across Europe and America, drawing the attention of Roadrunner Records, which promptly released the album worldwide and signed the band to a long-term contract. No longer restrained within Brazilian borders, the band set about composing 1989's Beneath the Remains, the first of four albums which would solidify Sepultura's position as perhaps the most important heavy metal band of the '90s. Recorded in Rio de Janeiro under the guidance of leading death metal producer Scott Burns, Beneath the Remains was an immediate critical and commercial success, and the band's ferocious performances on the subsequent European tour (which saw them systematically blowing headlining German thrashers Sodom off stage) further cemented Sepultura's reputation. The band also filmed its first video, for the single "Inner Self," and finished the year tour with a triumphant set of shows in its homeland.

After obtaining new management and relocating to Phoenix, AZ, Sepultura entered Tampa's Morrisound Studios with producer Burns to record 1991's highly acclaimed Arise album. First single "Dead Embryonic Cells" proved to be another resounding hit, and the title track would gain even more attention when its video was banned by MTV America due to its apocalyptic religious imagery. The world tour that followed elevated the album to platinum sales worldwide (a figure rarely achieved by bands of such extreme nature) and, in a strange twist, found singer Max Cavalera marrying band manager Gloria Bujnowski, who was almost twice his age. Such was the band's success that its label, Roadrunner, obtained a co-distribution deal with Epic Records for its next recording, 1993's Chaos A.D.. By incorporating social issues (especially relating to Brazil) into their lyrics, as well as displaying some of their punk and hardcore influences for the first time, the album was another worldwide smash thanks to singles like "Territory" and "Refuse/Resist." After touring for over a year, the members of Sepultura took a well-deserved break before starting work on their most ambitious album yet, 1996's Roots. The introduction of native Brazilian percussion and musical styles into their trademark down-tuned guitars and increasingly sociopolitical themes resulted in a highly unique record which could be loosely described as heavy metal world music. Roots marked Sepultura's creative peak, and the band's continual rise to ever-greater fame seemed guaranteed until a family tragedy set off a series of events which would break up the band.

Just hours before taking the stage at England's Monsters of Rock festival, the band discovered that the teenage son of manager (and singer Max's wife) Gloria had been killed in a car accident. A shocked Sepultura took the stage as a trio while Max and Gloria boarded the first plane back to America. Only a few months later, the band confronted Max about severing ties with Gloria and finding new management. Still recovering from the recent trauma of a death in his extended family, Max viewed this as a huge betrayal and left the band amid much bad blood and acrimony. As the band's creative leader, many expected his departure to spell the end of Sepultura, but the band announced that it would carry on and soon began looking for a replacement.

After a long search, Sepultura recruited Cleveland native Derrick Green as their new singer and began laying down tracks for 1998's Against. Though it retained much of the intensity and diversity of its predecessor (including a collaboration with Japan's Kodo percussion ensemble on the track "Kamaitachi"), the album lacked the unique spark which had characterized the band's prior work. It also sold only half as many copies as Cavalera's first album with his new band, Soulfly, clearly showing with whom fan loyalty remained. Undaunted, Sepultura returned in early 2001 with Nation. The album followed in the footsteps of its predecessor, despite better reviews and a more seasoned Green on vocals. In order to reach out to its slowly shrinking fan base, the group released one of its last live shows with Max, Under a Pale Grey Sky, in the fall of 2002. An EP of covers, Revolusongs, arrived in 2003, followed by the full-length Roorback. Live in Sao Paulo arrived in 2005. ~ Ed Rivadavia, All Music Guide
